Former Alabama, Michigan, and Utah defensive back Cam Calhoun has signed with Ohio State, per Hayes Fawcett. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
The name Cam Calhoun may sound familiar to many Buckeyes fans. The Ohio native famously chose the Michigan Wolverines over Ohio State following a crushing defeat in 2022. He would go on to play in just two games for the Wolverines before transferring to Utah. He played his best football for the Utes before entering the portal again and choosing Alabama. Now, Calhoun will play for his fourth team in Columbus.
Calhoun provides a security blanket of depth in the Buckeyes cornerback room, following the departure of Lorenzo Styles, Davison Igbinosun, Bryce West, and Aaron Scott Jr. The Buckeyes will be tested this season, and Calhoun will have to step up in big moments. Although he isn’t expected to start, he will still maintain a significant role, playing alongside Jermaine Mathews, Devin Sanchez, and Miles Lockhart.
Calhoun is now the 13th transfer addition to the Buckeyes roster and the lone cornerback. The Buckeyes have addressed many key positions on both sides of the ball, adding seven defensive transfers, four offensive transfers, and two special teams transfers. This comes as a response to the 30 different players departing to the transfer portal and 17 key graduates.
Ohio State Athletic Director Ross Bjork spoke to Adam King of 10TV about the strategy when it comes to NIL. Bjork stated, “We are being aggressive but we’re also doing it the right way… they expect us to win at a high level, but do it with integrity.” Bjork is focused on winning and acquiring talent while also following the guidelines in the College Sports Commission. This approach seems to be heading in the right direction after a rough start.
